MARCEL ERNEST CERF.

 

 

Judge Marcel E. Cerf, of San Francisco, has at all times maintained the highest standards, both personal and professional, and has become known for his interest and activity in literature and in civic and philanthropic affairs. He is a native son of California, and was born in 1877 in San Luis Obispo County. He received his early education in the country schools, and at home, and then entered the University of California, from which he graduated with the degree of Ph. B. in 1897. His legal training was obtained at Hastings College of the Law, where he graduated with the LL.B. degree in 1900.

 

Upon his admission to the California bar in that year Judge Cerf engaged in the general practice of his profession at San Francisco. In 1913 he became Judge of the Superior Court, but two years later he re-entered private practice as a member of the firm of Cerf & Sooy. Since the dissolution of this partnership in 1923 he has practiced alone. Judge Cerf was Chairman of the Organization Committee of the San Francisco Legal Advisory Board and was an executive of that body. He is a Trustee of the Drexler Trust, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Hospital and School for Convalescent Children and a director of the Sumitomo Bank of California.

 

Judge Cerf holds membership in the American Bar Association, State Bar of California and the Bar Association of San Francisco, which he has served for several years as a member of the Committee on Discipline and Grievances. He is a member of the San Francisco Art Association, California Historical Society and various other organizations, and is the author of various articles and reviews. In 1909 he married Katherine Agnew Martin and they have two daughters, Charlotte Crosby and Elizabeth Agnew.
