Francisco in 1859.
His early education was received in the public schools, and later in St.

study of medicine in the medical department of the University
of California in 1879, and
graduated at that institution in 1884, receiving his degree as Doctor of

York, where he took a post-graduate course at the Bellevue
Hospital College. Returning to San
Francisco, Dr. Buckley was appointed Assistant Police
Surgeon, which position he held about two years. He was then appointed City Physician, which
he held for one year, and then entered into private practice, which he has
since continued.
Dr. Buckley’s
father was a pioneer of 1849, and a well-known business man of San
Francisco,
and in earlier years was prominent in political questions of that day. He was one of the directors of the first
savings bank established in San Francisco,
the San Francisco Savings and Loan Society, and was also a man honored with
public trusts by his fellow-citizens, holding the position of State Senator at
the time of his death, in 1864. His
death occurred in consequence of accidental injuries received on the occasion
of the launch of the United States Monitor Comanche, of which he was one of the
spectators. He was one of the founders
of the Industrial School of San Francisco, and was at one time its
superintendent. He also owned at that
time the Cliff House and the Cliff House ranch, which the family
have since sold to Adolphe Sutro. He had the road to the Cliff House built and
was one of the company who built it.
