CARL
GROVER BROWN
Carl
Grover Brown, chairman of Index Investment Corporation, was born May 2, 1878,
in Watsonville, California. The son of Albert Vincent and
Sylvia H. (Grover) Brown.
His preparatory education was
obtained at Stanford University, from which he received his A.B. degree in
1900.
Mr. Brown started his career as a
clerk with the firm of Voss, Conrad & Company, San Francisco, California,
1900 to 1903, and resigned as special agent and adjuster in casualty field.
Then became a special agent, and later vice president, for the Pacific Coast
Casualty Company, to 1912. In 1913 he organized the California Casualty
Indemnity Exchange, of which he has since been chief executive. Mr. Brown was
president of Index Investment Company and has been chairman of the board of the
company since 1920, San Francisco.
Member of the Bohemian Club, San
Francisco Commercial Club, San Francisco Golf Club, Stanford Club of San
Francisco; and is a member and past president of California Society of Sons of
the Revolution.
Mr. Brown married Susan Dorsey
Sawyer on September 5, 1906. Their home is at 2820 Lake Street, San Francisco,
California.
