ROY A. BRONSON

 

 

Roy A. Bronson, lawyer, was born in Los Angeles, California, on July 20,1889; the son of Edward D. and Mabel S. (Knox).

            He obtained his elementary education in the public schools of Oakland, California, graduating from the Oakland High School in 1908. Both his preparatory and legal education were obtained at the University of Santa Clara, where he received the A.B. degree in 1912, the M.A. degree in 1913, and the LL.B. degree in 1914. He was admitted to the California bar in 1914.

            Mr. Bronson has been in the practice of law at San Francisco, California, since 1914, where he is senior partner in the firm of Bronson, Bronson & McKinnon, which he founded on January 1, 1927.

            He was president of the San Francisco Bar Association in 1945; chairman of the Resolutions Committee of the American Bar Association in 1947 and 1948; president of the California Safety Council in 1949; occasional lecturer to the bar of San Francisco and other cities on corporation law, under the Continuing Education Program of the State Bar of California; president of the Alumni Association of the University of Santa Clara in 1929; and is a director of the First California Company, Viking Automatic Sprinkler Company, the Gourrich Foundation and others.

            Member of the American Bar Association, San Francisco Bar Association, Los Angeles Bar Association, State Bar of California; Bohemian, Olympic, and Commercial Clubs (San Francisco, California); California Club (Los Angeles, California).

            Mr. Bronson is noted horseman and has raised and developed many high-type western saddle horses which have been exhibited in various horse shows. He is a member of several Western riding groups, is secretary-treasurer of the California Reined Cow Horse Association, and was formerly captain of the San Francisco Sheriff’s Mounted Posse. Besides roping an occasional steer, he also collects books, and as an additional hobby, collects and repairs old clocks.

            On February 16, 1916, Mr. Bronson married Clarisse C. Caspers of San Jose, California. They have three daughters: Jean (Mrs. John Elizardi Miller), Margery (Mrs. Stephen S. Townsend), and Claire (Mrs. Philip Keith Hayes). Mr. Bronson was divorced in 1949 and married (2d) Lola Jones Rankin of Pasadena, California.
