GUS BELTRAMI

Italy has contributed many of her native sons to the citizenship of San Francisco, and among them is Gus Beltrami, who is part owner and manager of Gus’ Fashion Restaurant at 65 Post street. He was born in Novara, Italy, September 6, 1883, and is a son of the late Serafino and Guseppa (Albini) Beltrami. Serafino Beltrami spent sixteen years of his life in San Francisco and then returned to Italy, where he remained until his death.

Gus Beltrami acquired his education in the grammar schools of his native land and came to San Francisco when a youth of seventeen years. His first work was in a local restaurant, and in 1903 he bought a grocery store on Montgomery street. He next engaged in the liquor business at 204 Montgomery avenue, but all of his belongings here were destroyed during the fire of 1906. Following this misfortune he was active in the general merchandise business in Sonoma, California, for one year. In 1916, in partnership with Giusto Peverini and Louis Forni, he bought his present place of business at 65 Post street, which is one of the best patronized and attractive restaurants in San Francisco, serving French and Italian dinners and specializing in fish and game dishes.

Mr. Beltrami was married to Miss Isabella Corda, whose birthplace was near his own in Italy. They have three children: Aldo, Livio and Irene.

In fraternal and civic affairs, Mr. Beltrami has been an interested participant, and he holds membership in the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, the Druids, the Down Town Association, the Public Spirit Club and North Central Club, and the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce. He is a communicant of the Roman Catholic Church, and in politics gives his support to the republican party.
