ACQUISITIONS
PURCHASED FROM BEANS FUND
In September 1951 the
Society received from the Estate of Miss Rowena BEANS, a sum of money to be
expended for the purchase of Californiana. The
following items have been purchased from this fund.
"Letters and Journals of Captain Samuel F. DUPONT," while in command
of the Cyane
during the War with Mexico, 1846-1848.
The Log Book of the U.S. Flagship Independence,
which was kept by Captain LaVALLETTE on the voyage
that brought Comm. SHUBRICK to California.
A portrait of Captain Henry L. FORD, Lieutenant of the Bear Flag Party, painted
from a daguerreotype by Ethel K. PERDRIAU.
The Letters of John HEWSTON Jr. on the establishing of the U.S. Branch Mint in
