ANDREW C. STERRETT

As one of the progressive, enterprising young business men of Morgan Hill, Santa Clara county, Cal., mention should be made of A. C. Sterrett, who for the past eleven years has made his home in the state mentioned.  In coming to California, Mr. Sterrett traveled across the plains from the far east, his native state being Pennsylvania.  His grandfather, David Sterrett, was also a native of Pennsylvania, and during his lifetime followed the double occupation of a broker and a mill owner, passing his last days in Erie county.  His son, James C., was born in that county and was also a broker by occupation, and in connection a manager of properties.  He was united in marriage with Lucy M. Goolban and was the father of two children, of whom A. C. is the older; the other child is a daughter.  James C. Sterrett died near Erie, Pa., but his widow still survives him and after September, 1904, expects to come to California to reside with her son, A. C.

A.C. Sterrett was born in Erie county, Pa., August 17, 1865.  Besides his early education, which he derived from the common schools, he also received a business course in Clark’s college at Erie, Pa., graduating from that institution in 1888.  For a while he acted as traveling salesman for an oil company, his route being through, the states of Ohio and Pennsylvania, but in 1893, he came west to California.  At Morgan Hill he engaged in the real estate and brokerage business, investing his time and money in helping start the town, then in its infancy.  Since then he has risen to a position of prominence here and at present owns considerable property.  He is a Republican in politics.  Fraternally he affiliates with the Independent Order of Odd Fellows.  He can truly be said to be self-made and is held I high esteem by all who know him, since he is always foremost in any enterprise for the public good.
