EMIL SEAGREN

In the busy little manufacturing town of Orebro, Sweden, Emil Seagren was born November 18, 1867, a son of John Peter and Clara (Peterson) Seagren, both natives of Sweden.  The father, who was a farmer during his active years, died in his native land, and his widow resides in Minneapolis.  There were ten children born to Mr. and Mrs. Seagren, five sons and five daughters, of whom Emil was next to the youngest.

Until nineteen years of age Emil Seagren remained an inmate of his parents’ home, but at that age he severed home ties and embarked for the United States.  Following the course taken by many of his countrymen he went to Minnesota, and in Minneapolis he obtained employment in a sawmill, running what is known as a trimmer.  After remaining there about six years, during which time he had become quite thoroughly acquainted with American ways and had mastered the English language, he went to San Francisco, in 1892, and the year following came to Santa Clara county.  More fortunate than many who start out alone and unaided in their endeavor to gain a foothold in the business world Mr. Seagren was not long without employment.  J. Brynteson, who owns extensive orchards in Santa Clara county, was later in need of a competent man to take charge of his various interests here and was fortunate in securing the services of Mr. Seagren.  The orchard comprises forty-five acres and is located on the Los Gatos road, five and one-half miles from San Jose.  For three and one-half years Mr. Seagren has had the entire supervision of the ranch and during that time gathered many crops of luscious fruit.

In San Jose, Cal., in 1900, Mr. Seagren was united in marriage with Miss Annie Holtman, also a native of Sweden, and their home is blessed by the presence of three children.  The family find their church home in the Swedish Mission in San Jose, a body of workers banded together to uplift and encourage their fellow-countrymen.  The Republican party receives the support and vote cast by Mr. Seagren.
