CARL F. NEUBOLD

No business man could be better versed in the line of his own enterprise than Carl F. Neubold, one of San Jose’s most successful citizens, the proprietor of the Home Bakery, which is favorably known throughout the city and surrounding country. Of a family of seven children, four of whom are living, he is the third in order of birth and the only living son of his parents, Andrew and Catherine (Ruckert) Neubold, both of whom were natives of the fatherland. He was also born in Baden, Germany, November 19, 1875, and when ten years old his parents brought their family to the United States. In the same year Carl F. Neubold came to San Diego, Cal., where he attended the public schools. While still a lad he began an apprenticeship to learn the trade of locksmith, but not liking the business he gave it up after fourteen months. In 1892 he came north to San Francisco and was apprenticed in Bamford’s Home Bakery, where he remained two years. He then went to Marysville and secured employment with Hill’s Bakery and remained with them from 1894 until 1899, holding the responsible position of foreman. In the last named year he located in San Jose and engaged in the bakery business for fifteen months, where he again removed to San Francisco and spent the ensuing eight months. Returning to this city he entered the employ of the Hornbuckle Bakery as foreman, in which position he remained until January, 1904, when he purchased his employer’s interests and has since conducted the business alone. His retail store is located at No. 143 South First street, where he carries a full line of bakery goods, chief among his productions being the celebrated home-made bread. His bakery is thoroughly equipped in a modern and up-to-date style, and with a capacity ample to supply the demand. He is meeting with success which follows a concentrated effort, and has a large trade.

In Marysville, Mr. Neubold married Kate McElroy, a native of Bakersfield, Vt., and of this union were born two children, Anna and Gwyndoline. In his political convictions, Mr. Neubold is an adherent of the principles advocated in the platform of the Democratic party. In the line of his business interests he is a member of the Master Bakers’ Association of San Jose.
