FRANK R. KOTTINGER

The name of Frank R. Kottinger is well known in both Santa Clara and Alameda counties, his home being in San Jose when he is not located in Pleasanton, superintending his mother's large land interests in that locality.  He is the second son of Hon. John W. and Maria (Bernal) Kottinger, whose biographical sketches appear in another part of this volume, and was born upon the present location of Pleasanton, Alameda county, December 21, 1852.  He was the first white child born in that little city, which his father established, erecting there the first frame house and selling to the first business men of the place many of the lots upon which the town now stands.   When he was five years old his parents removed to San Francisco and in that city he attended school until he was ten years old, after which they again located in Pleasanton.  He varied an attendance of the common school of Pleasanton with the practical home duties which he was early taught upon the paternal ranch, and also received scholastic training in the schools of San Jose, where his parents made their home a part of each year.  Growing to manhood he continued in the pursuit to which he had been reared and is to-day a progressive and intelligent rancher and takes a deep interest in the pursuit which has formed his life work.  He is a typical representative of the western man, with his generous hospitality, his frank courtesy and the courage and honor which are an inheritance of the native Californian.  He is universally respected and esteemed wherever known.
