EMIL KOBER
As a native born citizen of
California, and a rising young business man of San Jose, Emil Kober is especially worthy of mention. He was born March
26, 1874, in Santa Cruz, a son of Frederick Kober.
Born and reared in Germany, Frederick Kober
immigrated to the United States thirty or more years ago, and located in Santa
Cruz, Cal., where he engaged in business as a shoe merchant until his death,
while yet in the prime of life. He married Anna Huber a native of Germany, and
they became the parents of five children, of whom Emil is the third in order of
birth. The mother now resides in San Francisco.
After completing his early education
in the Santa Cruz High School, Emil Kober learned the
tailor’s trade, at which he worked for a number of years. Coming to San Jose in
1897, Mr. Kober entered the employ of Louis Hess, and
having worked his way through the various departments until familiar with all
the details of dyeing and cleaning, he became manager of the Hess San Jose
Dyeing and Cleaning Works, which is the largest and longest-established plant
of the kind in the Santa Clara valley.
In San Jose, June 14, 1902, Mr. Kober married Louise Hess, the only daughter of Louis Hess.
She was born in San Jose, and was here educated, being a graduate of the high
school. Politically Mr. Kober is independent, and
religiously is a Lutheran. Fraternally he belongs to the Knights of the Maccabees, to the Eagles, and to the Improved Order of Red
Men.
