WARDWELL D. EVANS
Although one of
the younger attorneys who are practicing in San Bernardino, Wardwell D. Evans
has become well established in his profession, due to his analytical powers and
ability to present arguments in the strongest possible light. He was born in Chicago, June 24, 1901, a son
of D. Walter and Anna (McCauley) Evans, the former a native of Maine and the
latter of Illinois. The father, now
deceased, was a member of the Lang & Evans Company and served for a time as
deputy assessor of San Bernardino County.
In religious belief he was a Christian Scientist. His widow lives in San Bernardino and an
older son, Daniel W. Evans, is engaged in the practice of law in San Francisco.
The second son, Wardwell D. Evans,
was but a year old when his parents came to California and has spent
practically his entire life in this state.
After his graduation from the San Bernardino high school he attended
Leland Stanford University, which awarded him the A. B. degree in 1923 and that
of J. D. in 1925. He had spent the year
1923-24 in study at Harvard Law School.
Admitted to the California bar in August, 1925, Mr. Evans began practice
in San Bernardino in association with William Guthrie and was in the district
attorney’s office for two years.
Experienced and capable, he is making a creditable record as assistant
city attorney and also has a remunerative clientele, maintaining an office on
the fifth floor of the Andreson Building.
In 1928 Mr. Evans married Miss
Lorena Lacy, daughter of Charles E. and Ida Pearl (McKittrich)
Lacy, and they have one child, Daneen D., born
January 14, 1932. Mrs. Evans belongs to
the Business & Professional Women’s Club and is well known in musical
circles of San Bernardino. In healthful
outdoor exercise Mr. Evans maintains his physical well being, playing golf for
recreation. He is a past exalted ruler
of the San Bernardino Lodge of Elks and a member of the Exchange Club, Phi
Alpha Delta, a legal fraternity, and the San Bernardino and California State
Bar Associations.
