HON. ELERT
A. RIZOR
Hon. Elert A. Rizor has served on the bench as judge of the city court of Santa Barbara during the past quarter century. He was born in Columbus, Ohio, August 11, 1869, his parents being Jacob S. And Matilda (Trindle) Rizor, who were also natives of the Buckeye state, the former born in Mansfield and the latter in Newark. Jacob S. Rizor, a veteran of the Civil war, was successfully engaged in business as a contractor and builder during his active career. He reached the advanced age of eighty-one years and passed away in the faith of the Methodist Church, of which he was a member. His family numbered four children.
E. A. Rizor attended the public schools of his native city in pursuit of an education and subsequently read law, being admitted to the Ohio bar in 1894. He came to California as a young man of twenty-four years, was admitted to the bar of this state and began the active work of his chosen profession in Santa Barbara. Here he has remained throughout the intervening period of four decades and during the past twenty-five years has served as judge of the city court, with offices in the city hall. His decisions have ever been characterized by the utmost fairness and impartiality and his record on the bench is one of which he may well be proud.
In 1899 Judge Rizor was united in marriage to Miss Mabel E. Kiler, of San Rafael, California, daughter of Edwin Kiler. They are the parents of five children, as follows: Clifford F., who is an expert in gas engines and in airplane work; Frances T., who is connected with a local transportation company; Paul E., an employe of the American Optical Company; Ruth, who is an accomplished pianist and musician; and Quintin, a high school student.
Fraternally Judge Rizor is affiliated with the Knights of Pythias, while along strictly professional lines he has membership in the Santa Barbara County and California State Bar Associations. He is an elder in the Christian Church, in the work of which both he and his wife take an active and helpful part, and he is also vice president of the Santa Barbara Humane Society. Judge Rizor manifests a deep interest in everything relating to the material, civic or moral welfare of his adopted city, and because of his professional ability and success, his sterling integrity of motive and action and his splendid personality, he is held in high esteem.
