DAVID
SHEPARD LICKER
David S. Licker is numbered among
the representative and successful young attorneys of Santa Barbara, maintaining
offices in the La Arcadia building. He was born in Providence, Rhode Island,
June 2, 1908, his parents being Samuel and Lena (Shepard)
Licker, both of whom are natives of Russia. Samuel Licker was a youth of
sixteen years when he crossed the Atlantic to the Unite States, landing in New
York city, whence he soon made his way to Providence,
Rhode Island, where he became a successful merchant. He and his wife now make
their home in Santa Barbara, California and have a family of six children, all
of whom are living.
David S. Licker acquired his early
education in the schools of Portland, Maine, and subsequently entered the
University of Southern California, from which he was graduated with the
Bachelor of Arts degree in 1929, while two years later the same institution
conferred upon him the degree of Bachelor of Laws. As a college student he
became a member of Tau Epsilon Phi, was a champion boxer and also played
basketball. He was admitted to the bar in 1931 and for a time followed the work
of his chosen profession in Los Angeles in association with his brother, Reuben
Licker. Since coming to Santa Barbara he has practiced independently and has
enjoyed a growing and remunerative clientele, being regarded as an able and
trustworthy lawyer. He is a member of the Santa Barbara County and California
State Bar Associations, and he also belongs to the Independent Order of B’nai
B’rith. Golf is his favorite form of recreation.
On December 22, 1933, Mr. Licker was
united in marriage with Frances Novick, born in
Omaha, Nebraska, but a resident of Los Angeles at the time of their marriage.
