He was born in Providence, Rhode Island, June 2, 1908, his parents being Samuel and Lena (Shepard) Licker, both of whom are natives of Russia. Samuel Licker was a youth of sixteen years when he crossed the Atlantic to the Unite States, landing in New York city, whence he soon made his way to Providence, Rhode Island, where he became a successful merchant. He and his wife now make their home in Santa Barbara, California and have a family of six children, all of whom are living.

David S. As a college student he became a member of Tau Epsilon Phi, was a champion boxer and also played basketball. He was admitted to the bar in 1931 and for a time followed the work of his chosen profession in Los Angeles in association with his brother, Reuben Licker.
