LINCOLN P. WILLIAMS
LINCOLN P. WILLIAMS. To
the honor of being a native-born citizen of California Mr. Williams adds
the distinction of being an able and popular official of Sacramento
county and one of the best-known men in this part of
the state where practically his entire life has been passed. While wealth
has not come to him in return for his indefatigable labors nor has fame claimed
him as her own, yet in a quiet, contented and useful way he has pursued his
daily duties and lived the life of an honorable and upright citizen, enjoying
the esteem always accorded to those of known integrity and high principles of
honor. In his capacity of county official he has devoted himself
strenuously to the duties of the position with an earnest desire to win the
commendation not alone of the party that elected him, but also of his political
opponents.
The county of San
Francisco is the native
home of Mr. Williams and there he was born April 7, 1865, being the son of F.
O. A. and Fanny (Timmins) Williams. He attended Sacred heart College in San Francisco, and there was fitted for the responsibilities of the
business world. For some time he was employed as a book binder, and in
1888 came to Sacramento, where he had charge of the state bindery, until his
election to his present office of county auditor.
From
the time of casting his first ballot Mr. Williams has been a stanch supporter
of the Republican party and an active worker in its
local ranks. In recognition of his services to the party locally as well
as his qualifications for office, in 1902 the Republicans in county convention
nominated him for the office of county auditor and he was duly elected for a
term of four years, assuming the duties of the position in January of 1903, to
serve until January of 1907. While he has been the incumbent of the
position for less than one term, he already has elicited tributes as to his
efficiency, fidelity and promptness, and aside from being a faithful
office-holder is also a genial, companionable
gentleman and a stanch friend.
The marriage of Mr. Williams, which was solemnized in
1891, united him with Miss Ollie C. Smith, of Sacramento county, the recipient of
excellent educational advantages and a lady of culture. The family which
she represents is of pioneer stock, her father being Leonard C. Smith.
