DUDLEY DEAN WATSON

 

 

            Dudley Dean Watson, real estate commissioner, was born December 8, 1895, in San Francisco, California.

            His education was obtained in Yolo and Colusa Counties, California, and at Berkeley, California.  World War I interrupted his plans for law study at the University of California.  He served in the United States Army Air Forces; then, following the tradition of his farming forebears, he developed and operated large acreages of irrigated orchard and vegetable lands in Contra Costa County, California.

            Mr. Watson was general sales manager of California Lands, Inc., from 1931 to 1933, but still maintained his personal farming interests.  From 1938 to 1948, he was president and general manager and a principal stockholder in the Harris Manufacturing Company, Stockton, California.  Headed his own real estate firm for twenty-five years, actively participating in state and national organized real estate.  On December 1, 1948, he was appointed Real Estate Commissioner and member of State Public Works Board by Governor Earl Warren, and re-appointed January 1, 1951 for a four-year term.

            Past president of California Real Estate Association, California Property Owners Association, and National Farm Lands Division; past vice president and director of National Association of Real Estate Boards; relinquished vice presidency of National Society of Industrial Realtors when appointed commissioner.  He organized and was first president of Brentwood Lions Club; charter member of American Legion; member of Claremont Country Club, Oakland; Sutter Club, Sacramento; and Los Angeles Athletic Club, Los Angeles.

            Mr. Watson has been active in business in Alameda, Contra Costa, San Francisco and San Joaquin Counties, California.  His varied activities make him a well known figure throughout the state and nation in real estate, farming, manufacturing, and industrial circles.  He has won national recognition in engineering, developing, and manufacturing as related to agricultural and industrial properties.

            Mr. Watson was married in 1919 and has two sons and one daughter, all married.
