John
Walsh, rancher, four miles from Galt, was born in Ireland, February 20, 1840,
and left his native country for Boston, Massachusetts, June 16, 1863, and
arrived there July 29, following. In 1868 he came to California on the steamer
Montana. After remaining in San Francisco a short time, he spent two years in
San Jose; 1870-‘74 he was in Stockton, and then settled upon his present place,
known as the old King ranch. It comprises 160 acres of fine land, which is
devoted to hay and grain. Richard Walsh,
the father of John, was born in Ireland in 1816, and died in that country in
1856. Mr. John Walsh married, at Stockton, March, 1878, Mary Flaherty, who was
born in Ireland. Their four children are: William, Abbie, Maggie, and John P.
