AUGUSTUS JACKSON MORRISON

Augustus Jackson Morrison, who obtained his start in business life in the east, is well known in commercial circles of Sacramento as an automobile dealer, although his residence here has been comparatively brief. He was born in Erie, Pennsylvania, November 17, 1886, and is a son of John Alfred and Anna (Hamlin) Morrison. The father, a prosperous business man, is a representative of a family long established on American soil.

In a grammar school of Boston, A.J. Morrison pursued his early education and was next a pupil in the high school at Worcester, Massachusetts, graduating with the class of 1901. After attending the Worcester Military Academy he went to Evanston, Illinois, where he took up the study of law in Northwestern University. He left that institution to enter the employ of the Bell Telephone Company and through repeated promotions became district manager, with headquarters in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This position he resigned at the time of his enlistment for service in the World war. He was first assigned to the Tenth Regiment of United States Infantry and was identified with the aviation branch of the army for a year at the end of which time he was transferred to the Engineers Corps, and rose to the rank of first lieutenant.

When mustered out of the service Mr. Morrison joined the Chevrolet Company, at Detroit, Michigan, later working for them in New York, and subsequently was one of their representatives in Oakland, California. In the fall of 1926 he removed to Sacramento and has since been the Chevrolet distributor for Sacramento county. He is conveniently located at Thirteenth and K streets, where he has ample space for display purposes, and employment is furnished to eighty people. Thoroughly experienced, he knows the merits of the line of cars which he handles and has a well trained sales organization. His careful supervision is given to every detail of the business, which is efficiently managed and has enjoyed a steady growth.

Mr. Morrison was married to Miss Judith E. Smith, of Minnesota, and they have a daughter, Barbara Jean, who was born in California. Retaining his connection with military affairs, Mr. Morrison is now a captain in the Engineers Reserve Corps. A thirty-second degree Mason, he belongs to the Consistory and is also a Shriner. He has membership in the Executives Association and in the Country Club and is president of the Exchange Club of Sacramento. He casts his ballot for the candidates of the republican party but has never sought political office. However, he cooperates in movements of reform, progress and improvement and his interests are closely allied with those of Sacramento, which accounts him a valuable addition to its citizenship and business life.
