JOHN B. MARTIN
JOHN
B. MARTIN.–The subject of this sketch was born in the Azores Islands, April 3, 1877, a son of Antonio and Mary Martin,
both natives of the same place, who came to California in 1893. Here the mother died, but the father, now
eighty years old, is hale and hearty. When our subject was fourteen years old,
he left his native home and came to the United States and directly to Sacramento, where he received a fair education in the public
schools; he learned the barber’s trade and was also employed by the Southern
Pacific Railroad Company. Since August, 1915, he has been a city employee,
occupying the position of city pound master.
The marriage of Mr. Martin in 1896 united
him with Miss Rose Azevedo, a native daughter of Sacramento, and they are the parents of five sons and one
daughter: John B., Jr.; Irene, Mrs. Frank Gregory, now the mother of two
children; George, Ralph, and Arthur, employed by the Southern Pacific, and
Raymond. Fraternally Mr. Martin is affiliated with the Red Men, U. P. E. C. and
the I. D. E. S. of Sacramento and in politics votes with the Republican party.
