John Wesley Heath, merchant and postmaster
at Michigan Bar, Cosumnes Township, was born in Adams
County, Indiana, November 18, 1846, his father being George W. Heath (see

in the district schools. He did some

of West & Heath, dealers in general merchandise, and was appointed postmaster
in October of that year. Since 1885 he
has been sole proprietor of the business, and is owner of the store and some
other buildings with the acre and a half on which they stand, besides
forty-four acres outside the village.
Mr. Heath was married in 1873 to Miss Elizabeth C. Brown, a native of Arkansas, daughter of James M. and Felicia
(Carter) Brown. The family came to
California in 1854; the mother died in 1887; the father is still living on his
place about two miles from Michigan Bar, aged sixty-tree. Mr. and Mrs. Heath are the parents of six
living children: Nettie
Bernice, born December 25, 1877; Lena Maud, April 19, 1879; Myrtle Elizabeth,
December 17, 1881; Edna Alice, December 25, 1883; George Monroe, October 12,
