Sacramento County
WILLIAM JOSEPH COFFEY
An exemplary
citizen of Sacramento was William Joseph Coffey, whose demise occurred in this
city, December 15, 1929. He was born here June 4, 1867, a son of a pioneer
grocer of this community, who had a store at Third and O streets, which was for
many years the center of the residence and business sections.
William J. Coffey was educated
in the public schools, and for a number of years thereafter was employed in the
Southern Pacific Railroad shops. He then became connected with the recreation
department of the city of Sacramento, and was so affiliated until the time of
his death he gave his political support to the democratic party, and was a
member of the Native Sons of the Golden West.
On February 8, 1897, Mr. Coffey was married to Harriett
Dosch, a daughter of Edward M. and Catherine (Green) Dosch, biographical
mention of whom appears elsewhere in this publication. Mr. and Mrs. Coffey were
the parents of three children: William E., Robert M., and Edna Sarah. The sons
are now engaged in farming in the Natomas district of California. Mr. Coffey's
oldest brother was a former chief of police of Sacramento.
