ANDERSON,
HARTFORD, was born in Pennsylvania, in 1818, where he remained till 1840,
engaged in farming. For five years worked at his trade, millwright, and then
removed to Wisconsin, where he remained till 1849, engaged in wagon-making and
bridge-building. In 1850 came to California, and has followed mining, for
thirty years. In 1844 married Lurana Adkins, a native of Kentucky, who died in
1852; was married again in 1857; the second wife died in 1874. Mr. Anderson has
held the office of Justice of the Peace for twenty-five years. His property is
worth about $1000. Post Office, Folsom.

BURNHAM,
J. H., druggist, Folsom; owns property in Folsom; born in Galveston, Texas, in
1845; parents moved to California in 1853; lived in San Francisco until 1856;
then moved to Folsom, where the subject of this sketch has continued to reside.
He entered the drug business in 1864. Married Miss Mary A. Clark in 1866; she
is a native of Boston, Massachusetts; they have two sons. Mr. Burnham's property
is valued at about $6000.

DONNELLY,
MRS. K.; boarding house and livery stable, Folsom; owns town property; born in
Patterson, New Jersey, in 1849; came to California in 1858; lived in San
Francisco until 1860, then removed to Prairie City, Sacramento County; in 1868
came to Folsom, where she has since resided. Married Henry Donnelly, a native
of Ireland, in 1865; he died August 14, 1877; they had two sons and one
daughter.

HARTHAN,
L.; mining, Folsom; own undivided half of one hundred and sixty acres of
mineral land known as Rhoades diggings; born in New Hampshire in 1828; sailed
in bark Regulus from Boston, in 1849, for California via Cape Horn; was
seven months making the voyage; settled at Mormon Island, this county, and
engaged in mining for about two years; was in the employ of Adams Express
Company for some three years. In 1861 enlisted in the First Battalion
California Volunteers; served three years and was honorably discharged at Las Cruces,
New Mexico; the battalion was commanded by Colonel Carleton, who afterwards
became a Major General; after his discharge he returned East, and came back to
California in the spring of 1865, and settled in Folsom, where he has since
been engaged in mining, speculating and restaurant business. Mr. Harthan has
been Constable, and also held the office of Deputy Sheriff under A. D.
Patterson. He is a member of the Sacramento Society of Pioneers.

McEWING,
S. S., farmer, lives six miles from Folsom, and sixteen miles from Sacramento;
owns five hundred acres of land; born in Canada in 1844; engaged in farming
until 1869, then came to California via the Isthmus of Panama and settled in
Sacramento County; moved to present location in the fall of 1878. He was
married to Mary Pike in 1874; she was born in Ohio; they have one son. Post
Office Routier.

MEREDITH,
J. S., druggist, Folsom; owns property in town valued at about $5000; born in
Winchester, Virginia, in 1820; in 1840 removed to Ohio, and engaged in general
merchandising until 1849; then came to this State, via Cape Horn, and settled
where Folsom now is. He has been engaged principally in the drug business since
his arrival, also, in the early days, sold miners' supplies. Married Miss Laura
Wheeler in 1861; she was born in Ohio. They have four children two sons and two
daughters. Mr. Meredith has been Supervisor for eight years and Notary Public
for six years.

NEY,
GEORGE K.; Post Office Routier; lives about eight miles from Folsom and
seventeen miles from Sacramento; was born in Franklin County, Penn., November
15, 1812; removed to Allegheny County in 1829, and lived there until 1833; he
then moved to Virginia, and remained there about three years, and then went to
Missouri and resided until 1850; he came to California in that year, across the
plains, and settled in this county; was engaged in mining in Placer County for
thirteen years; has been engaged in farming and stock-raising in this county
since 1865; owns 4012 acres of land in Granite Township, worth with
improvements about $50,000. His brother, John, who came over the plains with
him in 1850, and has been living on his ranch since 1854, was born in 1807. A

SHIMP,
F. E., mining, Folsom; owns property in Folsom, also one hundred and sixty
acres of land in El Dorado County; born in Pennsylvania in 1846; learned the
cabinet trade, and lived in Pennsylvania until 1866; then came to California,
and settled in Folsom, where he has been principally engaged in mining; was
foreman of the Diatoma Company. He was married to Miss L. Tully in 1876; she was
born in Kansas.

STROBEL,
W. A., livery business, Folsom; owns property in Folsom; was born in Germany in
1832; that year his parents emigrated to the United States, and settled in
Ohio. He remained there until 1852; then came to this State, by way of the
Isthmus, and remained in Sacramento City for a short time; has continued to
reside in the county since his arrival in the State; settled in Folsom in 1869,
where he has carried on the livery business up to this time; was engaged in
mining up till 1872 in the county. Married Miss Martha Wilson in 1875; she was
born in California; they have two children, one son and one daughter. Mr.
Strobel has held the office of Constable and Collector for the past two years.

DEMARK, ABRAM, blacksmith and wagonmaker, Folsom; owns house and lot in Folsom,
valued at $2000; born in Ulster County, New York, in 1827; remained there until
1848. January 7, 1849, started for California, via Cape Horn, arrived in San Francisco
July 7, 1849; two months later went to Mormon Island, this county, and engaged
in mining for a short time; came to Folsom, and mined; since 1850 has been
engaged in blacksmithing and wagonmaking. Married Miss Martha Ann Burrill in
1854; she is a native of Cape Ann, Massachusetts; they have four children, one
son and three daughters.
