WENDELL A. JONES, M. D.

Dr. Wendell A. Jones is a successful physician and surgeon of Arlington, a suburb of the city of Riverside, where he has been actively engaged in practice during the past seventeen years.  He was born in Greenhill, Indiana, August 12, 1874, his parents being Absalom W. and Mary (Ambrose) Jones, both natives of Illinois.  The father was a school teacher prior to entering upon the practice of medicine in Ohio.  He was a member of the United Brethren Church, in the faith of which he passed away.  To him and his wife, who survives him, were born four children.

Wendell A. Jones acquired his early education in the grammar and high schools of Westerville, Ohio, and received his professional training at the Ohio State University, from which institution he was graduated with the M. D. degree in 1898.  He served as intern in the Protestant Hospital of Columbus, Ohio, for a year and began the practice of medicine at Westerville, Ohio, where he remained for two years.  At the time of the Spanish-American war he was a physician with the Forty-third United States Volunteers and the Eleventh Infantry Field Service.  Locating at Arcanum, Ohio, he there continued in practice for fifteen years and then in 1915 came to Arlington, California, which has since remained the scene of his professional labors.  His practice has grown steadily with the passing years as he has demonstrated his ability in coping with the complex problems which continually confront the physician in his efforts to restore health and prolong life.  When the United States became involved in the World War he was commissioned captain, being stationed at Fort Riley and Camp Kearny until sent overseas with the Fortieth Division.  He remained in northern France for nine months, engaged in hospital work.

In 1898 Dr. Jones was united in marriage to Mellie Cook, daughter of Robert and Mary Cook, of Pennsylvania.  They are the parents of four daughters, as follows:  Mrs. Mary Delano, of Riverside, who has three children; Mrs. Katherine Bishop, of Riverside; Mrs. Lenore Dales, who has one child and also lives in Riverside; and Martha, at home.

Dr. Jones has membership in the Lions Club and the American Legion and fraternally is affiliated with the Masons, belonging to Evergreen Lodge, No. 259, Free and Accepted Masons (F. & A. M). He indulges his fondness for golf on the links of the Victoria Country Club, of which he is a member.  The doctor has a host of friends, enjoying deserved popularity in both social and professional circles of Riverside County.
