Biographies
ALBERT SEGER COOPER
Albert Seger Cooper, prominent public utility
official, with offices in Riverside, is assistant treasurer of the Southern
Sierras Power Company, with which he has been continuously identified for the
past two decades, working his way upward to his present important position, and
is also an officer or director in a number of affiliated companies. He was born in Kansas
City, Missouri, March 15, 1871,
his parents being Clark O. and Susan Elizabeth (Seger)
Cooper, the former a native of Albion, New York, and the latter of Ohio. Clark O.
Cooper, a teacher by profession, eventually turned his attention to the
agricultural implement business. He relocated
to Kansas City, Missouri, in 1870 and passed away in 1918.
Albert S. Cooper,
one of a family of four children, acquired his education in the grammar and
high schools of his native city. For a
period of eighteen years he was connected successively with the operation
department of the Wabash, the Maple Leaf, the Northern Pacific, the Great
Northern and the Denver & Rio Grande railroads, and while in the service of
the Great Northern was located in the general offices in St. Paul.
In 1903, he entered the power industry, with The Pueblo Traction Company
in Colorado
as accountant, later being appointed auditor.
Early in 1907 he was offered a position with The Nevada-California Power
Company in Nevada, one of the companies affiliated with The Southern Sierras
Power Company. He spent five years in
Goldfield, Nevada, prior to coming to California about 1912,
at which time he became associated with the Southern Sierras Power
Company. In the service of this great
corporation he was steadily advanced until he is now filling the official
position of assistant treasurer, and he is also a director or officer in the following
affiliated companies: The Imperial Ice
& Development Company, Interstate Telegraph Company, Hillside Water
Company, Nevada-California Power Company and Cain Irrigation Company.
In 1905, in
Colorado, Mr.
Cooper was united in marriage to Ella M. Neuman. They are the parents of three daughters,
namely: Elizabeth, who is now engaged in child welfare work in Los Angeles;
Ruth, a member of the faculty of Riverside Junior College; and Marion, a
grammar school pupil.
Mr. Cooper
is deeply interested in the work of the board of education of Riverside, of which he has been a member for
the past nine years and president for five years. He is also a director of the Riverside
Chamber of Commerce and a charter member and former director of the Kiwanis
Club. In religious faith he and his
family are Protestants. He indulges his
love of golf on the links of the Victoria Club, of which he is a member, and in
fact is fond of all outdoor sports.
