*Established
in Mono County, and transferred to Esmeralda County, Nev. The California
records do not furnish the date of transfer, except that it apparently was
after the appointment of David A. Baun as Postmaster,
23 January 1864.
†Reported
established in Inyo County. If the record is correct, the change into Mono County must have been by change
of site, before or at the time of appointment of James M. Caldwell as
Postmaster 23 January 1878.

*Aromas,
Lonoak, Peach Tree and Priest Valley are or were near
the Monterey-San Benito County boundary. They are reported in both counties,
due to changes of site or uncertain location of the boundary line.
Aromas
was
established in Monterey County; was apparently transferred to San Benito County
on or about 23 Dec 1897, and there remained for about 27 years, when returned
to Monterey Co. The appointment of Lesbia M. Cause,
20 Dec 1894, is the last entry on the San Benito record and the first for the
second period in Monterey County.
Lonoak was established in Monterey
County. The last Postmaster appointment in that county was made 14 Jun 1820 and
the first in San Benito County 17 Nov 1922. It has been in San Benito County
since.
Peach
Tree was established in Monterey County, and probably went into San Benito
County when created a year later. The record shows it back in Monterey County
in time for the appointment of a Postmaster 19 Oct 1877.
Priest
Valley is recorded as established in San Benito County 14 Dec 1882; but after
the appointment of the next Postmaster 23 Oct 1883 appears the notation “Now in
Monterey Co.” The latter appointment opens the record in Monterey County, where
it remains until the office was discontinued.
†New Idria is reported to have been established in Monterey
County and shortly transferred to Fresno County. See Note under latter county.
It seems likely that New Idria was never in Monterey
‡Slack
Canyon is reported established in San Benito County 10 Feb 1873,
and soon transferred to Monterey, but San Benito County was not created until
12 Feb 1874, a year later and never included the Slack Canyon area. Therefore,
Slack Canyon was established and always in Monterey County.

*The record
shows as to Bronco, “Late in Washoe Co., Nev.”
†Donner
in Placer County was changed to Norden in Nevada
County, 24 Aug 1926.
‡Round
Tent appears to have been established in Nevada County and moved into Yuba
County about 1855. The change was due to change of site, or confusion as to the
boundary line when the office was established. No official change of the
Yuba-Nevada County boundary can explain the shift.
