JAMES GUSTAVE SCARBOROUGH
James G. Scarborough is senior member of the law firm of Scarborough & Bowen, of Los Angeles, and Scarborough, Forgy & Reinhaus, of Santa Ana. He is a native of Louisiana, and was born in 1862 at Kisstchi. After completing his preparatory educational training in private schools he attended Waco University, Waco, Tex., then entered Howard Military College, Marion, Ala., which conferred on him the degree of A. B. in 1883. His legal training was obtained through private study in Waco, Tex., and he was admitted to the bar of that state in 1885.
The following year Mr. Scarborough moved to California and engaged in the general practice of his profession at Los Angeles. In 1900 he entered into partnership with William M. Bowen, of that city, under the firm name of Scarborough & Bowen, which continues to date. The firm of Scarborough, Forgy & Reinhaus, of which he is also senior member, was organized some time before the Los Angeles firm. The firm originally was Scarborough & Forgy. They are Counsel for such interests as the First National Bank of Santa Ana, Abstract & Title Guaranty Company, and Pacific Electric R. R.
Mr. Scarborough served for two years, 1891 to 1893, as District Attorney of Orange County, and is the author of many important articles on Code Pleadings, he having lectured for ten years at the School of Law, University of Southern California. He is a member of the American Bar Association, State Bar of California, Los Angeles County Bar Association, and Orange County Bar Association, as well as the Jonathan Club and Los Angeles Country Club. He is a 32° Mason and Shriner. In 1887 he married Florence Pendleton, who died in 1916. In 1921 he married Margaret Jenkins. Mr. Scarborough's son, James G., Jr., is a member of his father's firm.
