EDWARD RUSSELL AMERIGE
Edward Russell Amerige, deceased
brother of George Henry Amerige, was born in Malden, Massachusetts, August 1,
1857, and grew to manhood in his native town.
Following the completion of his educational training he entered into a
business partnership with his brother, George H., with whom he was associated
continuously throughout the remainder of his life. The two came to California in May, 1886,
locating in Orange County, and the story of their business activities here is
given in detail in the above sketch. A
prominent figure in public affairs, Edward R. Amerige was a member of the first
board of trustees of Fullerton, served as mayor of the city and was also school
trustee. Moreover, he served for two
terms, from 1903 until 1905, in the assembly of the state legislature. He took a leading part in matters pertaining
to irrigation and was for a time president of the Anaheim Union Water Company. He was liberal and progressive in his views
and enjoyed high standing in civic, business and social circles of his
community.
A Knight Templar Mason, Mr. Amerige
was one of the founders of Fullerton Lodge, F. & A. M., and it was largely
through his efforts that the first Masonic temple was built in Fullerton. He passed away May 3, 1915, when in his
fifty-eighth year, and the funeral services in Fullerton were conducted by the
Knights Templar, while according to his request his body was taken back to Massachusetts
and buried in the old family lot in Forest Dale Cemetery at Malden.
