KENNETH
K. BECHTEL
Kenneth
K. Bechtel, insurance executive, was born July 4, 1904, in Oakland, California;
son of Warren A. and Clara (West) Bechtel. He was a student at the University
of California, 1922-23.
Mr. Bechtel began his career in 1921
in association with W. A. Bechtel Co. (established in 1895), construction
engineers, San Francisco, and served as vice president and director from 1925
to liquidation in 1945. He was president and director of the Marinship Corporation from 1942 to 1952; has been president
and director of Industrial Indemnity Company since 1931, private underwriter of
workmen’s compensation insurance, with home office in San Francisco and also
offices in other principal California cities; director of the Bechtel
Corporation, American Trust Company, Pacific Far East Line, Inc., and Joshus Hendy Corporation; chairman of Industrial Indemnity
Exchange.
He is vice president of the National
Council of Boy Scouts of America and a member of the National
Executive Board of same since 1947.
Mr. Bechtel holds membership in the
following clubs: Bohemian, Stock Exchange, Pacific-Union, St. Francis Yacht
(San Francisco); California Club of Los Angeles; Marin Yacht (San Rafael,
California); and Meadow (Fairfax, California).
On December 16, 1926, Mr. Bechtel
married Elizabeth Hay and they have two sons, Peter Hay, born in 1936, and Jon
Hay born in 1938. The family home is in Ross, California.
