Mokelumne School District was petitioned and approved by the County Board of Supervisors 5 August 1861.  It was located in San Joaquin Township on the north side of the Mokelumne River along the road to Stockton.  Enrollments ranged from 29 in 1866 to 5 or 6 in 1922.  The district was suspended in 1924 and 1925.  It began again in 1926 with 7 pupils and continued until 1947 when it was contracted to Galt.  It was finally annexed to Franklin Union School District on 7 January 1949. - “Sacramento County Public School Districts 1850 - 1992 A Brief History”
