FIFTY YEAR GOLD BUTTONS
At the 79th annual communication of
the Grand Lodge of Masons in California, opened at the City of San Francisco
Tuesday, Oct. 9, 1928 and terminating Friday, Oct. 12, 1928, it was recommended
by Grand Master Will H. FISCHER that the Grand Secretary be authorized and
directed to prepare a design for and to strike off a sufficient number of
buttons, made from the pure gold of California's hills, and forward to each
Lodge within the jurisdiction, one of the buttons for each fifty year old Mason
on the roll; that the Committee on Ritual be authorized and directed to supply
the Masters of Lodges with a brief ritual or form of ceremony in order that
each of the veteran Masons might be impressively presented with a lasting
evidence of the esteem of the Grand Lodge of California and the love and
affection of his brethren.
The recommendation of the Grand Master was adopted and by resolution of Grand
Lodge the privilege of receiving the token was limited to those who had been
members of Lodges within our jurisdiction for fifty years.
At
the 80th annual communication of Grand Lodge held from Oct. 8 to Oct. 11, 1929,
the privilege of wearing the fifty year token was extended to members of Lodges
in our jurisdiction who have been Master Masons in good standing for fifty
years or more.
