CLIFFORD A. WRIGHT, M. D.

Dr. Clifford A. Wright, with offices at 2417 South Hope Street, Los Angeles, is widely recognized as an authority in the field of endocrinology and is chief of the medical section of the staff of the Los Angeles Orthopedic Hospital.  He was born in Fresno, California, March 14, 1882, a son of Lucius A. and Naamah P. (Hank) Wright.  Lucius A. Wright, a native of Ohio, there practiced medicine and pharmacy until coming with his family to California in 1882.  He owned drug stores in various places where he lived and was Indian agent for the Mission Indians of Southern California and Yuma, Arizona from 1896 until 1906.  He became an authority on the Mission Indians, their traditions, habits and customs.  His death occurred April 8, 1933, while his wife passed away September 6, 1931, both at Los Angeles.  Their married life extended over a period of fifty-five years and theirs was the privilege of seeing each of their four children become successful and leading citizens.  The four children were as follows:  Arthur, who was a leading attorney of Los Angeles for two decades prior to his death in 1924; Clifford A., of this review; Gertrude, Mrs. George R. Boalich, of Los Angeles, teacher of piano; and Lloyd E., an attorney of Los Angeles.

Clifford A. Wright acquired his early education in the public schools of San Jacinto, California, and received his professional training as a student in the medical department of the University of Southern California, from which institution he was graduated with the degree of M. D. in 1907.  Thereafter he served as an interne on the staff of the Los Angeles County Hospital for four years and then took up the private practice of his chosen profession, soon ranking among the able and successful physicians of Los Angeles.  In 1913, however, he was obliged to retire from practice because of illness and it was not until three years later, in 1916, that he resumed his professional activities and began the study of endocrinology, in which special field he has since become a recognized authority.  He is on the staff of several of the leading hospitals in Los Angeles, including the Los Angeles General Hospital.  He has membership in both the Los Angeles County and California State Medical Societies and the American Medical Association and the Society for the Study of Endocrinology.

On the 19th of January, 1924, Dr. Wright married Bessie Neelly Jones, a widow, who is a prominent member of the Ebell Club and the United Daughters of the Confederacy.  She has two daughters, Charlotte, Mrs. Ward Rolland and Betty Jones.  Dr. Wright is a member of the Masons, holding membership in the Mizpah Lodge, No. 378, F. & A. M., the Los Angeles Consistory of the Scottish Rite, and Al Malaikah Temple, A. A. O. N. M. S.  He is also a highly esteemed member of the Jonathan Club and Casa del Mar Club.
