HERBERT WOLFSKILL

Among the native sons of California, Herbert Wolfskill ably upholds the honor of an old family and is recognized as one of the representative business men and progressive citizens of Los Angeles, where he was born on December 27, 1881.  His parents were Louis and Louisa Anna (Dalton) Wolfskill, who were also born in Los Angeles.  Mrs. Wolfskill was a daughter of Henry Dalton, one of the sterling pioneers of California.  Louis Wolfskill was educated in a military school in San Francisco and when he had completed his schooling he became associated with his father, William Wolfskill, in looking after the Wolfskill estate in Southern California.  While never an aspirant for office he did serve one term as a councilman of Los Angeles.  He died at the early age of thirty-six years in February, 1884.  Mrs. Wolfskill died May 30, 1887.  Of the marriage of Louis and Louisa Wolfskill seven children were born, one of whom died in infancy.  The others are:  William L, of Los Angeles; Alice, of San Jose; Frank A., of Los Angeles, Ysabel, wife of H. G. Weyse; Herbert, of this review; and Julian.

Herbert Wolfskill profited by attending the public schools of Los Angeles, and at the age of eighteen secured employment with the Fruit World Publishing Company.  His next business connection was with the Union Hardware & Metal Company, where he remained about six years, when he became associated with J. W. Wolfskill, a pioneer florist of this city.  In 1914 Herbert Wolfskill organized the Jefferson Ice Company, located 157-163 East Jefferson Street, and has served as its president ever since and has given his best efforts to build up a prosperous trade.

On February 3, 1908, at Phoenix, Arizona, Herbert Wolfskill was married to Miss Edith Bonita McDonald.  She was born in Sharon, Pennsylvania, a daughter of William and Lura McDonald, both natives of Pennsylvania.  When she was five years old the family moved to California where she was reared and educated.  Her mother now lives in South Pasadena.  Mr. and Mrs. Wolfskill have two daughters:  Edith Frances, now the wife of Lieut. Clarence Eugene Eckstrom; and Alice Louise, who married Lieut. Curtis S. Smiley.  Mr. Wolfskill is a member of the Los Angeles Parlor of the Native Sons of the Golden West, is a democrat in politics and a member of the Catholic Church.  He is interested in all progressive movements for the development of his state and gives liberally of his means and time to help every worthy cause.
