HAROLD F. WHITTLE

 

Harold F. Whittle, president of H. F. Whittle Investment Company, was born on a farm near Vinton, Iowa, in 1890.

He is a graduate of West Waterloo High School, where he won seven letters, and Northwestern University (1914), where he was captain of the basketball team in 1914 and also played right end on the football team.

Mr. Whittle was engaged in the investment business in Minneapolis, Minnesota, until 1933; then vice president, in charge of Mortgage Loans, of Acacia Mutual Life Insurance Company at Washington, D. C., and now represents the same company as Mortgage Loan Correspondent. Mr. Whittle is president of H. F. Whittle Investment Company, Los Angeles; member of the Board of Directors’ Advisory Committee, Paramount Fire Insurance Company.

Formerly president of Mortgage Bankers Association of Southern California and director of Mortgage Bankers Association of America; now regional vice president of Mortgage Bankers Association.

Mr. Whittle has been president of the Y.M.C.A. of Los Angeles for eleven years; past member of National Board of the Y.M.C.A.; now vice president of the National Council and president of Pacific Southwest Area Council, Y.M.C.A. During the Second World War he served on the Board of Directors of the U.S.O. of Southern California, chairman of Fair Rent Committee of Los Angeles, and director of War Services for City of Los Angeles. Member of the following clubs: University, Los Angeles Country, Bel Air Bay, and California. Belongs to the Beverly Hills Community Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Whittle’s wife is Ruth G. Whittle who is a graduate of Cornell College (Iowa) and is a member of the Women’s University and Beverly Hills Women’s Clubs. They have three children: Hal (served in U.S. Navy; now secretary in his father’s company; member of Board of Directors of Downtown Y.M.C.A.); Alex (past lieutenant in U.S. Navy; now treasurer in his father’s company); and Margaret.
