JOHN RAY WEST

 

 

            John Ray West, president of West-Marquis, Inc., was born in Seattle, Washington, March 10, 1908, the son of Judson Ray and Cora (Webster) West.

            Studied at Oregon State College from 1926 to 1928; then at University of Washington from 1929 to 1930.

            Mr. West was a member of staff of Pacific Motor Boat Magazine, Seattle, Washington, 1930 to 1932, and of Motorship, New York City, 1932 to 1935; assistant and vice president of Cummins Engine Company, Columbus, Indiana, 1935 to 1936; and has been president of West-Marquis, Inc., Los Angeles, since 1936.  He was also vice president of Stinson Flying Corporation, Glendale, California, 1938 to 1942, and director of United Flying School of America, Los Angeles, 1940 to 1943.

            Member and past president of Southern Chapter of National Aeronautic Association; member and past president of Aviation Breakfast Club.  Member of United States Coast Guard Auxiliary; Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce; Seattle Yacht Club and Jonathan Club of Los Angeles.

            Mr. West is a contributor of numerous articles to flying and boating periodicals.

            On October 4, 1931, he married Carolyn Griffith and they have two children:  Jacquelyn Alexa and Gordon Vance.
