FREDERIC
BEALL WEST
WEST,
FREDERIC BEALL, Physician and Surgeon, Los Angeles,
California, was born in Covington, Kentucky,
October 23, 1869, the son of Byron David West and Margaret Melissa (Christy)
West.
Dr.
West received his early education in the public schools of Chicago,
then attended St.
Ignatius College
for a year, but left to enter the office of his father, who was in charge of
the Michigan Insurance Inspection Bureau. His father was one of the most
prominent insurance men in the State of Michigan
and for eight years Dr. West was associated with him as clerk and assistant
inspector. In 1896, however, he determined to take up the study of medicine and
entered Barnes Medical
University at St.
Louis, Mo., graduating in the
class of 1899 with the degree, M.D.
Dr. West became a House Physician at St. Mary’s
Hospital, Grand Rapids, Mich.,
for about a year, when he moved to Colorado
Springs, Colo., and
engaged in private practice. After two years he moved to Los Angeles.
In
addition to his medical work, Dr. West is a close student of the various
religious and philosophical movements of the day and is affiliated with
associations for world betterment.
He
is a member of the State and County Medical Societies and American Medical
Association.
