DANA REED WELLER

 

 

      A representative member of the California bar who has won a splendid reputation as an able lawyer and jurist is Judge Dana R. Weller, of Los Angeles. Well qualified by natural ability and thorough grounding in the fundamental of jurisprudence he has attained a position of prominence in the legal circles of the state.

      Judge Weller is a native of Minnesota, and was born in 1874 at Oneota, now a part of Duluth. While still very young he moved with his parents to Los Angeles, where he received his preparatory educational training in public schools. In 1890 and 1891 he attended the California State Normal School at Los Angeles. He studied law under the preceptorship of John T. Jones, of Los Angeles.

      In 1895 Judge Weller entered practice in partnership with Mr. Jones, under the firm name of Jones & Weller. Judge Weller has since practiced individually. He served with distinction on the Superior bench, and in May, 1920, was appointed by the Governor as Associate Justice of the District Court of Appeals, serving until January, 1921.

      During the Spanish-American War Judge Weller served as Major with the 7th California Infantry, and from 1899 to 1901 served in the Philippine Islands with the 44th infantry, United States Volunteers, with the rank of Captain. He is a member of the United Spanish War Veterans, American Bar Association, State Bar of California and Los Angeles County Bar Association, as well as several clubs. He is a Mason, and was Grand Master of California in 1911. He married Jessica Rhodes in 1897 and they have one daughter, Katherine.
