LANE D. WEBBER

 

Lane D. Webber, business executive, was born in Aurora, Indiana, August 25, 1885; the son of Charles D. and Julie (Lane) Webber.

Graduated from Aurora public schools; studied at business prep school, Cincinnati, Ohio, 1904 to 1905; then attended George Washington University, receiving his LL.B. degree in 1911.

Mr. Webber was a court reporter in Indiana from 1905 to 1909; then admitted to California State Bar in 1912 and practiced law in San Diego, California, from 1912 to 1922; served as vice president and trust officer of The First National Trust & Savings Bank of San Diego, San Diego, from 1922 to 1935, and as director since 1922. He has been associated with Southern California Edison Company at Los Angeles since 1935, vice president since 1941 and director since 1945. He also has been vice president and director or Edison Securities Company since 1945.

Mr. Webber was president of Building Owners and managers Association of Los Angeles from 1945 to 1948; regional vice president and then national vice president of National Association of Manufacturers and chairman of its Government Spending Committee; trustee of Tax Foundation since 1948; president of California Bankers Association, 1930-31. He was president of San Diego Chamber of Commerce, 1926-27; member of State and Local Government Committee of Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce, and also Federal Affairs Committee; member of California State Chamber of Commerce and former director of Tax Committee and also chairman of Regional Tax Committee. Director of Panama-California International Exposition, 1915-16, and California-Pacific International Exposition, 1935-36; director (since 1926) and vice president of California Taxpayers Association; director and member of All Year Club of Southern California.

Member and director of Sons of the Revolution; member of Society of Colonial Wars, State Bar of California and Masonic Order (Scottish Rite-32nd degree; Knight Templar; Shrine; past potentate); member of Lincoln Club; president and director of California Club; member of Cuyamaca Club.

Mr. Webber was elected 1951 honorary member of Beta Gamma Sigma by the University of Southern California.

Married Harriett A. Meck on September 24, 1928.
