DELVY THOMAS WALTON

 

 

DELVY THOMAS WALTON, attorney, was born March 23, 1896, in Salt Lake City, Utah; son of Edward t. and Ellen M. (Whitehouse) Walton.

            Attended grammar school and Latter-day Saints High School (Salt Lake City), graduating with honors in 1915; winner of Heber J. Grant, Church Scholarship Medal.  In 1917 he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps, World War 1, and saw service in England, Scotland (attached to Royal Air Force), France Argonne, San Mihiel drives, Metz Offensive, and Germany (with Army of Occupation forces).  Sergeant Major with Fifth Pursuit Group, France; later second lieutenant, Air Corps; first lieutenant, Air Force Reserve (Military Aviator rating), 1919-1940.  On his release from service he attended the University of Utah, graduating in 1922 with the B.A. degree; attended the University of Chicago Law School, 1922-24, graduating with the J.D. degree; admitted to the Illinois Bar in 1924 and to the California State Bar in 1927.

            Mr. Walton commenced law practice in Chicago in June of 1924; associated with the firm of Taylor, Miller, Dickinson & Smith, 1924-27; then with the firm and in conjunction with Judge J. M. Dickinson until he left Chicago to enter individual practice in Los Angeles, California, in 1927.

            Author of leading articles on the law, such as Western Irrigation Law, Migratory Divorce, and Unfair Competition; contributor to legal journals; counsel in may litigated and reported cases in California State and United States District Courts.

            Mr. Walton is a member of the California State Bar Association, American Bar Association (active in membership and committee service, Section on Insurance Law, Real Property and Trusts), Los Angeles Bar Association (chairman of Program Committee, Committee on Unlawful Practice of Law, and Pleading and Practice Committee); Chancery Club of America (past president); Southern California Association, University of Chicago Alumni, 1939-1952; Phi Delta Theta and Delta Theta Phi Fraternities; Youth Council and Los Angeles Country Club.

            Served on money-raising campaign and now head for the California fundraising drive for Legal Research Clinic established at University of Chicago; former leader and chairman of Boy Scouts of America.  Recipient of special citations as United States Defense Bond sales campaign head, 1942-45; now local appeal agent, Administrative Draft Board, United States Army and head of Council on Student Admissions, University of Chicago; former assistant general counsel for Izaak Walton League of America, engaged in conservation and preservation of natural resources.

            Mr. Walton married Florence Higgins in 1933 and has three sons:  Delvy Craig, born in 1934 (student at Webb School of California, Claremont); John Thomas, born in 1937; and Laurence H., born in 1939.  Their home is in West Los Angeles, California, at 650 Midvale Avenue.
