CARLETON
BRIGGS TIBBETTS
Carleton Briggs Tibbetts, president and general manager of Los Angeles Steel Casting Company, was born August 7, 1896, in Berwick, Maine; son of Frank L. and Ruth (Simmons) Tibbetts.
He studied at the University of New Hampshire, 1913-17, receiving the degree of B.S. in Chemical Engineering.
Mr. Tibbetts began his career on January 1, 1919, as electric furnace helper. He has been associated with the Los Angeles Steel Casting Company since 1923 and has been president of same since 1929; also director of the Los Angeles Steel Casting Company, Los Angeles By-Products Company, and Holly Development Company.
His civic activities include: director of the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce, 1938-48, vice-president, 1940-41, and president in 1942; member of Area War Manpower Commission; mayor of the city of San Marino from 1945 to 1948; member of American Legion and Past Commander of San Marino Post; chairman of Establishments Division, Community Chest, in 1948.
Mr. Tibbetts has been director of Metal Trades Manufacturers Association since 1929 and was president of same from 1933 to 1940; vice president of Merchants & Manufacturers Association in 1940 and director from 1933 to 1948; director of National Association of Manufacturers from 1945 to 1946.
During World War I he served as lieutenant with the 303 Field Artillery, 76th Division, United States Army.
He holds membership in the American Legion (past commander); Sigma Tau Epsilon, Theta Chi and Alpha Chi Sigma Fraternities; Masonic Order; California Club and San Marino City club (past president)
Mr. Tibbetts married Julia Roberts on November 26, 1919, and they have three children: Franklyn Roberts, Patricia Daryl and Alan Roberts.
