KATIE
LEE TERRY
Associated
with the Pacific Telephone Company in Alhambra for the past twenty-two years,
Katie Lee Terry is now the assistant chief operator. She is in charge of close to forty employees
and a teacher of all phases of operating for the Pacific Telephone Company.
Born
in Ben Wheeler, Texas, on August 22, 1914, Katie Lee Terry is the daughter of
Robert Lafayette Loper, a farmer, who was born in Kentucky, and Lela Florence
(Jackson) Loper of Tennessee. One of
Mrs. Terry’s three sisters, Mrs. Harry (Lillian) Cramer, lives in
Alhambra. Mrs. Terry attended elementary
school in Ben Wheeler, Texas, and high school in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
Will
still in high school, in 1929, Mrs. Terry started in telephone work and stayed
with the company for ten years, working up to the position of supervisor.
In
1939 Mrs. Terry came to California, first to Bakersfield, and later in the year
taking up residence in Alhambra where she was employed by the Pacific Telephone
Company. Starting with the company as an
operator, Mrs. Terry became successively supervisor, instructor, district
office personnel assistant, and now assistant chief operator. She is a member of the Pioneers of The
Telephone Company, an organization made up of personnel who have been with the
company over twenty-one years.
Mrs.
Terry is the president of the Alhambra Quota Club for 1961-1962, having served
as vice-president of that organization in the past year and prior to that, as
chairman of various committees. This
year the chief project of the Quota Club has been furnishing clothing, birthday
gifts and similar items for the MacLaren Home; Mrs.
Terry devotes every Saturday to a party with the children at the home. Her religious affiliation is with the First
Baptist Church of Alhambra.
On
March 3, 1952, the former Miss Katie Lee Loper was married to Thurman H. Terry
in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mr. Terry is in
the automotive repair business in Van Nuys and is a member of the Montebello
chapter of the Moose Lodge in which he is a past governor and chaplain; he has
also held other offices in the lodge.
Mr. and Mrs. Terry reside in Los Angeles.
In
addition to her work and her absorbing Quota Club activities Mrs. Terry is a
member of the Alhambra Telephone Company bowling team and also enjoys golf,
gardening, and sewing.
