REESE H. TAYLOR

 

 

     Reese H. Taylor, president of Union Oil Company of California, was born July 6, 1900, in Los Angeles, California.  The son of Walter and Clara (Hale) Taylor.

     After attending the public schools of Los Angeles he studied at Cornell University from 1918 to 1920 and then entered the University of California (Berkeley) from which he graduated in 1922 with the A.B. degree.  From August to December, 1918, he served with the United States Army.

     Mr. Taylor entered the employ of the Llewellyn Iron Works in September of 1922 and remained until that company merged with the Consolidated Steel Corporation, Ltd., on December 28, 1929.  In December of 1933 he became president of the latter corporation, and on October 24, 1928, he resigned that position to become president of the Union Oil Company of California, which position he continues to occupy.  From May to September, 1942, he served as chief of the Iron and Steel Branch of the War Production Board.

     Mr. Taylor is also director of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, American Petroleum Institute, Western Oil and Gas Association, Los Angeles Chapter of American Red Cross, Los Angeles Turf Club, and Freedoms Foundation, Inc., Y.M.C.A. of Los Angeles, California Taxpayers Association, Hollywood Bowl Association; trustee of Cornell University, California Institute of Technology, and Tax Foundations, Inc.

     Member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, American Institute of Mining and Metallurgical Engineers, National Industrial Conference Board, Public Policy Committee of the Advertising Council, National Petroleum Council, Business Trends Committee of National Association of Broadcasters, Cornell University Council; Zeta Psi fraternity; Elks; Masons; and the following clubs: California, University (Los Angeles); Pacific-Union, Bohemian (San Francisco); Valley (Santa Barbara); Twenty-Nine; The Links (New York).

     On February 18, 1925, Mr. Taylor married Katherine Emery (deceased September 24, 1943); children: Waller, Reese Hale, Jr., and Frank Emery.  On November 4, 1944, he married (2d) Margaret Corrie; children: Margaret Elizabeth and James Marshal.  The family residence is in Pasadena, California.
