RICHARD ROBERT TANNER

 

 

      Richard R. Tanner is senior member of the firm of Tanner, Odell & Taft, with offices in Los Angeles and Santa Monica. He is a native son of California, and was born in 1858, at San Juan. His preparatory educational training was received in public schools and through private study, following which he studied law in the offices of Blackstock & Shepherd. He was admitted to the bar in 1885.

      In 1894 Mr. Tanner entered partnership with Frederick H. Taft, under the firm name of Tanner & Taft. Some time later the firm became Tanner, Taft & Odell, and when Judge Taft went on the bench it assumed the present form of Tanner, Odell & Taft. They engage in general civil practice and have a splendid clientage.

      Mr. Tanner also served as City Attorney of Santa Monica for 13 years, was a member of the Board of Education of that city for four years, was a member of the Board of Freeholders which prepared the Santa Monica city charter, and was Deputy District Attorney of Los Angeles County two years. He is a member of the American Bar Association, State Bar of California, and Los Angeles County Bar Association, and the National Geographic Society. He is also a 32° Mason and Shriner, and a member of the Scottish Rite, Elks and Odd Fellows. In 1893 he married Sebaldina M. Bontty, who passed away in 1924. He had one daughter, Nora, by a former marriage.
