Biographies
EDWARD S. SHATTUCK
Edward S. Shattuck, attorney, was born June 9, 1901 in Los Angeles, California; the son
of Edward Stevens and Grace Corrine (Stoddard) Shattuck. Both his parents are now deceased.
He graduated from the University of California College of Civil Engineering in 1923 with the B.S. degree. Studied law at the University of Southern California Law School, receiving the J.D. degree in 1926 and the Doctor of Science of Law degree in 1927. Admitted to the California State Bar at Los Angeles on march 18, 1927.
Mr. Shattuck is a member of the law firm of Guthrie, Darling & Shattuck, Los Angeles, which he joined in 1946 after release from active duty in World War II. Prior to the war and from 1934 to 1940 he was a member of the law firm of Shattuck, Davis & Story, Los Angeles.
Mr. Shattuck has been active in many civic and political organizations. Is a past president of the Economic Round Table of Los Angeles, International Association of 20-30 Clubs, Los Angeles and California Junior Chambers of Commerce, University of Southern California Law Alumni Association, Los Angeles High School Alumni Association; is a past chairman of the Los Angeles County and Republican State Central Committees; past State Commander of AMVETS; a past officer of the Reserve Officers Association of the United States; is a member of the University Club of Los Angeles, the Shadow Mountain Club of Palm Springs, Greater Los Angeles Press Club, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Vets, Military Order of World Wars, American Bar Association, State Bar of California, Los Angeles Bar Association, Delta Tau Delta and Phi Delta Phi fraternities, Native Sons of the Golden West, Carmelita Lodge F. & A.M., Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce, Trojan Club; he is now chairman of the Committee on Military and Naval Justice of the American Bar.
Mr. Shattuck is a veteran of both World Wars I and II serving as a private in the first World War and rising to the rank of Colonel in the second World War. His decorations include the Legion of Merit and the Bronze Star and Medal. He served in Europe in the first World War and the United States and Southwest Pacific theater in the second World War.
In 1950 Mr. Shattuck was a Republican nominee for Attorney General of California.
Mr. Shattuck married Mary Jane Walker of Duck Hill, Mississippi, on November 21, 1940. He has two daughters by a former marriage—Georgia Marie (Mrs. John Culhane) and Elizabeth Eulette (Mrs. Henry Kaak). He also has a granddaughter (Jolane Culhane) and a grandson (Kevin Culhane).
