LEO M. ROSECRANS

Leo M. Rosecrans, attorney, was born April 16, 1888, in Belmond, Iowa; son of William I. and Catherine (Finch) Rosecrans.

After attending the public schools of Belmond, Iowa, he entered St. Vincent’s College (Los Angeles, California), from which he graduated in 1908 with the A.B. degree.  Studied at the University of Southern California College of Law, from which he obtained his LL.B. degree in 1911, and the same year he was awarded a Master of Arts degree from St. Vincent’s College and was admitted to the California bar.

Mr. Rosecrans began practice of law in Los Angeles, California, in association with James L. Irwin, later referee in bankruptcy, and Thomas P. White, now presiding justice of the District Court of Appeal.   The firm name was Irwin, White and Rosecrans.  The firm was dissolved in 1917, when both Rosecrans and Irwin entered the armed forces in World War I.  Mr. Rosecrans served as an ensign in the United States Navy.  After the war he formed a partnership with Otto J. Emme under the firm name of Rosecrans and Emme, which continued for 29 years, being dissolved when Mr. Emme was appointed a judge of the Superior Court.  Since the dissolution of the partnership, Mr. Rosecrans has carried on the firm’s law business by himself.  He is associated, however, with attorneys Marcus Muskat and Joseph R. McGuire.

Mr. Rosecrans is a member of the Los Angeles Bar Association, the California State Bar and the American Bar Association.  He is also a past grand knight and past district deputy of the Knights of Columbus, a past judge advocate of the 17th District and the Los Angeles County Council of the American Legion, as well as a past commander of that organization.  He is a member of the B.P.O. Elks, the Navy League of the United States, the Anchor Club, and the Town Hall of Los Angeles.

Mr. Rosecrans married Mary Marguerite Brannen in 1914, and Madeline Kennedy in 1920, both of them being deceased.  A son, Leo M. Rosecrans, Jr., now attending school in Paris, France, under the G.I. bill, was born of the second marriage.  In 1933 he married Barbara Wilson Connolly, the mother of Sister Mary Joanna of the Holy Family Order.  Mr. Rosecrans and his wife now reside at 963 North Virgil Avenue, Los Angeles, California.

Offices, 1151 South Broadway, Los Angeles 15, California.
