BEATRICE CLARK WRIGHT RANDLE
For
over thirty years, since she and her parents founded San Marino Hall School for
Girls in South Pasadena in 1926, Beatrice Clark Wright Randle has been imbued
with the spirit of a true educator. “If
you love teaching it is most rewarding,” she declares. Her reward has been watching young people
develop year after year. “Their
expressions seem to change during the year, even their eyes become more sparkling.”
In
Harrisonville, Arkansas, on August 17, 1901, Beatrice Clark Wright Randle was born,
the daughter of Ralph and Mary P. Clark.
She received her elementary and high school education in Garden City,
Kansas, and attended the University of Kansas for two years, completing her
college education at the University of Colorado where she graduated in
1923. That same year the Clark family
took up residence in California.
From
the moment Mrs. Randle began her work as principal of San Marino Hall in 1926
until the school’s closing in 1961, she characterized her work as “a challenge
every day”; she met the challenge with serenity, confidence and optimism. There is a strong possibility that Mrs.
Randle will reopen the school at another, more suitable location. The increasingly busy location of the
original buildings has impinged on the school’s quiet, homelike
atmosphere. The property is owned by
Mrs. Randle and her husband and her brother, J. Paul Clark of Glendale; they
plan to build a deluxe thirty-six unit apartment at the site of the school
after the buildings have been razed.
On
October 17, 1928, the former Miss Beatrice Clark was married to James Buford
Wright at San Marino Hall. A graduate of
the University of California, Mr. Wright was with the Department of Recreation
for Los Angeles County. Mr. Wright
passed away in 1948. A daughter,
Patricia Marie Wright (Mrs. Franklin W. Moulthrop)
was born on May 25, 1931. She is a
graduate of South Pasadena High School and the University of California at Los
Angeles where she was affiliated with Kappa Kappa
Gamma sorority, and is the mother of two sons, John and Clark. They reside in Lafayette, California; Mr. Moulthrop is a manufacturer’s representative in
electronics.
Beatrice
Clark Wright was married to Albert Williams Randle, a publisher’s
representative of Los Angeles, on April 30, 1954, at San Marino Community
Church.
In
addition to her absorbing career, Mrs. Randle has found time for many
activities. For three years she served
as president of the Women’s Auxiliary of the California Babies’ and Children’s
Hospital. She is an active member of the
San Marino Community Church, having held several offices on the board of the
church women’s group, and was instrumental in the raising of funds when the church
was built. President of the Southern
Pasadena High School Parent-Teachers’ Association for two years, Mrs. Randle
has also held several offices in the board of directors of the San Marino
Women’s Club as well as being a member of the San Marino Chapter Number 554 of
the Eastern Star and a member of the San Marino Garden Club. She has always been active in Red Cross and
Community Chest, has served on election boards, and is active in the Pasadena
Alumnae of Alpha Chi Omega, and the P. E. O.
