JOSEPH HILL PENGILLY

 

 

Joseph Hill Pengilly, electrical engineer, was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on June 3, 1888; the son of James and Abbie (Sparhawk) Pengilly. He graduated from University of Minnesota in 1911 with an E.E. degree.

      Mr. Pengilly was assistant power engineer for Southern California Edison Company, from 1912 to 1917; partner in Brown and Pengilly (electrical products), Los Angeles, 1919 to 1927; with Diamond Electric Manufacturing Company, Los Angeles (successor company), from 1927 to 1934; vice president of Square D Company since 1934, manager of the Western Division since 1937, and also director. Director of Norris Thermador Corporation, and Electrical Products Corporation; director of California Manufacturers Association; director of Merchants and Manufacturers Association of Los Angeles; director and past president of the Jonathan Club of Los Angeles.

       Member and past potentate of Al Malaikah Temple (Shrine); member of Electric Club of Los Angeles (past president), and Wilshire Country Club of Los Angeles; member and director of Pacific Coast Electrical Association; Officers Reserve Corps.

      During World War I Mr. Pengilly served as Company Commander with the 56th Engineers, First Army, American Expeditionary Forces, France, 1917 to 1919. During World War II, 1942 to 1946, he served as Major, Corps of Engineers, Army of United States, and advanced through the grades to Colonel, Engineers Reserve Corps. He was awarded the Legion of Merit.

      Mr. Pengilly married Edythe Fulton on March 16, 1934. Their home is at 4827 Bonvue Avenue, Los Angeles 27, California.
