JOHN O'MELVENY

 

 

     John O'Melveny, attorney, was born December 1, 1894, in Los Angeles, California.  He is the son of Henry William and Marie Antoinette (Schilling) O'Melveny.

     Graduated from the University of California in 1918 with the A.B. degree; received his LL.B. degree from Harvard Law School in 1922 and was admitted to the State Bar of California in the same year.

     Mr. O'Melveny was associate attorney with the firm of O'Melveny, Millikin, Tuller & Macneil, 1922-25, and partner in the firm, 1925-36; senior partner in successor firm of O'Melveny and Myers, Los Angeles, since 1939.

     Trustee of Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company; vice president and director of Bing Crosby Enterprises, Inc., Crosby Investment Corporation, and Greenwich Corporation; director of Security-First National Bank of Los Angeles, Northrup Aircraft, Inc., Fullerton Oil Company, Pacific American Investors, Inc., Los Angeles Turf Club, Van Nuys Building Company, Van Nuys Investment Company, Factory Site Company, del Amo Estate Company, Greenwich Investment Company, Summit Lake Investment Company, Lerdo Land Company, California Institute of Associates; trustee and member of executive committee of California Institute of Technology since 1940; member of special finance committee of Henry E. Huntington Library and Art Gallery; chairman of the Board of Trustees of Barlow Sanitorium Association; director of Los Angeles Civic Light Opera Association; member of Board of Trustees of Southwest Museum; advisor for Salvation Army; chairman of Budget and Revision Committee, also member of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of Los Angeles War Chest, 1942-46; director of Legal Aid Foundation.

     In the First World War Mr. O'Melveny served as ensign with the United States Navy, 1918-19.

     Member of American, California State and Los Angeles Bar Associations; Winged Helmet, Golden Bear, Phi Beta Kappa, and Psi Upsilon; California Club, Sunset Club (Los Angeles); Bohemian Club (San Francisco), Roman Catholic, Republican.

     Mr. O'Melveny married Corinne Eisenmayer on August 24, 1922, and has two children:  Joan (Mrs. Wayland L. Morrison) and Patrick.  The family home is in Los Angeles, California, at 212 Muirfield Road.
