WILLIAM EDWARD M’VAY
M’VAY, WILLIAM EDWARD, Banker, Los Angeles, Cal., was born in Dixon, Ill., October 25, 1864, the son of William J. McVay and Sarah Moore (Strain) McVay. He married Kate Bryant, March 12, 1889, at Princeton, Ill., and to them there have been born five children, Laura E., Helene S., Silence K., Frances H., and William Bryant McVay.
Mr. McVay graduated from High School at Dixon, Ill.; later attended Bryant and Stratton’s Business College, Chicago. Went into the City National Bank of Dixon in 1885, and remained until 1887, when he moved to Los Angeles. He assisted in the organization of the Security Loan and Trust Company there, becoming its first secretary. From this institution grew the Union Bank of Savings, organized by Mr. McVay and others. He was the first cashier, serving in that capacity until the Union was consolidated with the German-American Savings Bank, in 1906. Mr. McVay became vice president of the new organization and has continued as such. He is a forceful factor in the financial affairs of the city.
He is a member of the California Club and the University Club of Los Angeles. He is a trustee of Occidental College and of the Whittier State School.
