WILLIAM CLINTON MULLENDORE

 

William Clinton Mullendore, public utility executive, was born May 18, 1892, in Howard, Kansas, son of John and Mary Eusebia (Robison) Mullendore.

Graduated from high school, Howard,Kansas, in 1909, then from the University of Michigan, receiving the A.B. degree in 1914 and the J.D. degree in 1916. Received an LL.D. degree from University of Southern California in 1948.

Mr. Mulldendore was admitted to the Kansas State Bar in 1916 and was in practice at Winfield, 1916-17 and 1921; assistant counsel to United States Food Administration, Washington, D.C., 1917, and counsel and liquidator in 1919; special representative to American Relief Administration, London, England, and Berlin, Germany in 1920; assistant to Secretary of Commerce Herbert Hoover, Washington, D.C., 1922-23; in general law practice in Los Angeles, California, 1923-28; special counsel for Southern California Edison Company, 1925-29, general attorney in 1929, vice president in 1930, executive vice president from 1931 to 1945, and president since 1945.

Trustee of Mutual Life Insurance Company of New York since 1940; director of Union Pacific Railroad, North American Aviation. Served as flying cadet with the Air Service, United States Army, in 1918.

Mr. Mullendore was president of Pacific Coast Electrical Association in 1933; director of Eighth Alumni District, University of Michigan, 1930-33; director of United States Chamber of Commerce, 1937, and vice president, 1938-41; director of Los Angeles Chamber, 1937–1946 and president in 1944. Trustee of University of Southern California, Foundation for Economic Education; director of Friends of the Colleges at Claremont.

Mr. Mullendore is the author of “History of the United States Food Administration.” 1941; and is a speaker and writer on economic and governmental subject.

Member of American and California State Bar Associations; California Institute Associates; Order of the Coif, Alpha Sigma Phi, Phi Alpha Delta; University, California, Bohemian, and Sunset Clubs. Republican. Presbyterian.

Mr. Mullendore married Esther Andrews on June 11, 1922. They have two daughters, Barbara Nadine and Carla Jane. Their home is in Los Angeles, California, at 337 South Lorraine.
