DR. SEELEY GREENLEAF MUDD

 

Dr. Seeley Greenleaf Mudd, physician and university professor, was born April 18, 1895, I Denver, Colorado. Son of Seeley Wintersmith and Della (Mulock) Mudd.

Student at Stanford University, 1913-15; received the B.S. degree from Columbia University in 1917; student at California University Medical School, 1920-22; received his M.D. degree from Harvard University in 1924.

Dr. Mudd served as house officer at Massachusetts General Hospital, 1924-26, and Dalton scholar and resident physician in cardiology, 1926-27. He began cardiology practice in Los Angeles, California, in 1928; research associate in cancer, 1931-35, professor of radiation therapy, 1935-41, research associate in medical chemistry since 1947, California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, California; dean of Medical School, 1941-43, and professor of experimental medicine since 1941, University of Southern California.

Trustee of Carnegie Institution (Washington), Pomona College, Stanford University, University of Southern California, National Fund for Medical Education; director of Finney-Howell Research Foundation, Baltimore, Maryland, Good Hope Hospital Association, Los Angeles; member Board of Governors, Los Angeles Area Council, Boy Scouts of America; member California Advisory Committee on Mental Health; member Advisory Council of Life Insurance Medical Research Fund; National Research Council (member of Advisory Commission on Aviation Medicine) 1942-45.

Diplomate American Board of Internists (sub-specialty cardio-vascular diseases); fellow American College of Physicians; honorary fellow in Philosophy, University of Southern California; member American Medical Association, American Heart Association, Radiological Society of N.A., Los Angeles Academy of Medicine; Pacific Interurban Clinical Club; Aesculapian Club and Boylston Society of Boston.

Member Sons of the Revolution, society of Colonial Wars; Sigma Xi, Alpha Omega Alpha, Nu Sigma Nu, Phi Kappa Phi, Delta Tau Delta; and the following clubs: Bohemian (San Francisco); California, Sunset, Twilight, Annandale (Los Angeles); Valley of Montecito (Santa Barbara, California). Republican.

Dr. Mudd married Dorothy Arnot Dunning September 6, 1924, and has two children: Seeley Wintersmith, II, and Elise Sandoz. Their home is in Pasadena, California, at 1550 Oak Grove Avenue.
